After running beautifully all summer (after replacing the stock mechanical fuel pump with an electric), my LX178 (with engine Kawasaki FD440V) one day simply refused to start. The engine cranks and cranks but refuses to start. I can smell gas, and the plugs are wet when I remove them, so it's getting fuel.Had much the same problem on my B43G installed in my 318, it ran good the day before then the next day went to start it & it only ran on #1 cylinder, installed another coil now works like new. New coil from John Deere is over $120.00 so, am looking for suggestions if there is an alternative coil that can be used.The primary coil reading should be between 3.7 ohms and 4.6 ohms while the secondary (spark plug side) should be between 34.2 k-ohms and 41.6 k-ohms. If the resistance values you measure are outside of these ranges, you need to replace the coil. I'm having the same type of problem on a 318 with the P218G engine.

Missing under load is a classic symptom of a secondary ignition issue. This is especially critical with the wasted spark system as both plugs fire in series at the same time. Just because it is cheap, change the condenser and be sure it is on the + side of the coil, not the neg like a points system.
