From what I have read the rear sight is a semi buckhorn and the smaller notch inside the horns is used for a closer range then the top of the horns.

I have on older (pre top bolt safety) Rossi 92 in 45 colt. I really like this rifle, the 1/2 round 1/2 octagon barrel is classy, the wood actually has some grain in it, and the trigger is nice and light. My only complaint about the rifle is the junky looking rear sight. I would like to replace it with a more traditional looking semi or full buckhorn style sight.
